quiet in quimixto dec. 18, 2009

journal entry after leaving la cruz:
out into banderas bay i saw my first turtle - he was big like a floating boulder.  then a whale off in the distance.  a few dolphins and a frenzy of feeding fish.  it's like glass and a thick cloud of smog hangs over vallarta.  no surprise with all the traffic.  we motored passed los archos and mismaloya, which is quite built up and nothing like i remember back in 85. tomatlan was too deep to anchor.  las animas was a zoo with jet skies circling the boat and pangas racing back and forth.  lots of party people.  at 3:30pm we anchored at quimixto where it's more quiet.  3 large commercial cats and power boats are anchored waiting to pick up the visitors.  tour boats left by 5pm then just lots of high-speed water taxis until 6pm.  now sunset has passed and there's a slight breeze so it's wonderfully chilly and quiet.  one last panga as night falls leaving a big wake causing us to rock and roll.  i hear roosters in the distance and waves hitting shore.  we experimented by cooking  dinner on the bbq to avoid heating up the boat down below.  huge long lines of pelicans fly past the bow as we eat dinner during sunset.  i can see the lights of PV across the bay and grey clouds cling to the hillside at the edge of this tiny bay.  now it's really quiet.
