and more from isla isabela

anchored off las monas

boobie in flight

gotta love those feet

the giving of nesting material

more to come and more on the shutterfly photo blog, eventually.

and then there are the babies

journal entry
i saw a tiny white fuzz ball protected by 2 parents and another stretching his corkscrew limbs. jim pointed out a third larger baby on a ledge all alone. the hike up the hill on the "trail" was difficult and would have been impossible if not for clumps of grass as footholds.

and now for the close ups

the top 3 pictures are boobies, the rest are frigates. i'll have more pictures on the shutterfly photo blog soon if i can get a good wifi connection.

they're everywhere

nest are small and large dripping down from the stunted trees

trees crowded with nesting frigates

frigate drying himself off i guess

i had to watch where i walked because iguanas were everywhere, young and old. they didn't scoot away like they did at el cid.
frigates perched everywhere
more journal entries...
dec. 10 - after fried egg sandwiches it took forever to get the dinghy into the water. i think it's a job for the dock not the deck. we dinghed over to the south side, the fishermen's village of maybe 7 huts to get an ever better (is that possible?) look at the nesting birds. oh my gawd it was fantastic. birds everywhere. so many different kinds making different sounds of mating and welcome and stay away. many of the trees were only 5 ft tall so their nests were at eye level. the nest sitters didn't budge as we walked by within touching distance. it's our western galapagos or dawin country.
