by noon it was time for margaritas on oct. 21

Oct. 21 at 5am, after a sleepless night and pouring rain, we waded up to the hotel as advised by them yesterday. They gave us a room to wait out the storm (formerly hurricane rick). By 6am we decided to go have breakfast so there we were, sitting in the hotel dining room surrounded by a beautiful buffet when the windows started blowing out. It was surreal with the storm raging outside, broken glass on the tables near the windows, and we were sipping coffee.
The eye of the storm passed over the marina about 7am. everything was in suspension, even sound. the wind switched direction. it was the sound that was most disturbing. a high-pitched whine that kept building. we were exhausted and excited at the same time. winds were clocked at 77mph.
a couple hours later we were back on the boat and it was all over. little damage was done, mostly uprooted trees and broken windows at the hotel. the boats were covered in grass clippings and tiny leaves and a few dock boxes were upended. by noon Eddie was mixing margaritas.
